Our Story & Mission
How it all began
How it all began
Cometeer cofounder Matt Roberts was a sugar-and-cream, hold-the-coffee kind of guy. That is until one day when he experienced coffee so artfully brewed that he could enjoy it black. He put down his drive-through coffee and never looked back.
Experimenting in his kitchen
Experimenting in his kitchen
Roberts knew he wanted to find a way for anyone to make an exceptional cup of coffee at home, and that the key to success is in the freshness of the brew. That's when the idea for flash-freezing coffee sparked. So he began experimenting in his kitchen, grabbing ice trays out of his freezer and getting to work.
Cometeer was born
Cometeer was born
In 2014, Roberts presented his prototype to the "godfather of specialty coffee," George Howell. The result was almost what he'd hoped—Howell admitted he was onto something revolutionary, but not before first spitting out the undrinkable brew Roberts had offered him. Together with CTO Doug Hoon and VP of Engineering Karl Winkler—engineers trained at MIT and Northeastern—Cometeer was founded, drawing on the expertise of leading coffee professionals and chemists.

Partners who share our values

Responsible and Thoughtful Sourcing

Knowing that the coffee could only be as good as the beans it came from, Roberts set out to share his invention with the country's best specialty coffee roasters...

Therefore...

We only partner with roasters who embrace direct trade sourcing. This means cutting out the intermediary and working directly with coffee producers. Doing so ensures farmers and their teams are paid higher prices. Oftentimes, the pay is even higher than what they might earn through Fair Trade certification programs.
